POLES AMONG EUROPEANES, PRACA ZBIOROWA

The authors of the articles in the present volume were searching for answer to the following questions: how have the values of Polish society been affected by the transformation processes, and, to what degree are these values similar to the values and attitudes of the European Union citizens? The answer to the first of these questions was made possible primarily thanks to the data from two different periods: the first Polish EVS study was conducted in 1990, at the very outset of the systematic transformations; the second took place ten years later. Given the profound nature of the social transformations, it seems justified to expect that it was precisely the processes connected with these transformations that constituted the basic factor shaping the values and attitudes of Poles in the last decade of the 20th century.

Autorzy prac zawartych w tomie poszukują odpowiedzi na pytania, jaki wpływ na wartości społeczeństwa polskiego wywarły procesy transformacji i w jakim stopniu wartości te zbliżają się do wartości i postaw cechujących obywateli Unii Europejskiej. Czynią to, bazując na solidnym gruncie badań socjologicznych z serii European Values Study. Uzyskane dane wskazały przede wszystkim na zróżnicowanie, a nie na jedność lub systemowość wartości. Autorzy wyjaśniają przy tym przyczyny obserwowanych zróżnicowań. Książka ta, przynosząc wyniki najnowszych badań, jest istotna dla samowiedzy Polaków. Bardzo ważna zarówno dla euroentuzjastów, jak i eurosceptyków. Stwarza solidny grunt do dyskusji o tożsamości Polaków, a także do sporów o zagadnienie ogólniejsze: czy istnieje tożsamość europejska?
